You know the stories. The truck, the farm, how they met. This is how they get written down, in their own voice, and handed to the grandchildren as a book.
How a gift works
You and I talk
Ten minutes on the phone. Tell me about them: where they live, how they are with a computer, and what you are hoping to end up with.
You get something to wrap
A printed letter in an envelope that says, in your words, that you want their stories. No account, no code, nothing for them to figure out when they open it.
I call them afterward
I introduce myself, answer their questions, and set the first visit for a time that suits them. From there it runs the way it would if they had called me themselves.
You get to read along
As they put stories on their family page, you and the rest of the family can read them, wherever you live. The book comes later, when there are enough of them.
Good to know
- What does the gift cover?
- Getting them set up and taught, start to finish. The book can be part of the gift now, or something the family goes in on together later. I will give you a number for each when we talk.
- They live somewhere else, or go south for the winter.
- That is fine. Near Harbor Springs I go to them. Anywhere else, we do the same visits by video, and I set up their computer from here while they watch.
- What if they want no part of it?
- Tell me before the first visit and you get all of your money back.
- How much notice do you need?
- Give me two weeks before the day you need it, so your letter is in your hands in time.
